I was born in 1944 in Washington, D.C. I was educated in New York City public schools and graduated from the High School of Music & Art in 1962. I received my A.B. degree from CCNY in 1967 and my Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1971.
From 1971 through 1985 I taught economic history, criminology and econometrics at CCNY, University of California/Berkeley, University of South Carolina and Columbia University. Beginning in 1985 I did non-profit and for-profit fundraising and then moved into IT, finishing as a VP of IT at MassMutual Financial Services. I currently live in Massachusetts.
Since 1964 I have been connected to the gun industry as a manufacturer, importer, wholesaler, retailer and lethal-force instructor for law-enforcement agencies. I have been profiled in The New York Times (Opinion | Guns and Public Health - The New York Times (nytimes.com) and The New Yorker Magazine (Mike Weisser Talks to Evan Osnos About the N.R.A. | The New Yorker), published more than 1,600 blogs on my website (www.mikethegunguy.social) and wrote a weekly op-ed on guns for Huffington Post from 2013 through 2018 (Mike Weisser | HuffPost)
