Want To Feel Stupid? Move To a Dumb State.

The good news about Trump’s primary victory over Haley in South Carolina is that Trump said exactly the same thing about himself that he said in 2020, and the same people voted for him in South Carolina who voted for him when he lost that election to Joe – white, Evangelical men without college degrees.

Now there are plenty of voters like that in the Confederate states, which is why Trump walked away with yesterday’s primary vote. At the CPAC meeting last night, Trump gave exactly the same speech that he gives on the campaign trail: Medicare will “collapse.” Social Security will “collapse.” Health care in general will “collapse.” So, too, will public education.

Millions of manufacturing jobs will be “choked off into extinction.” The U.S. economy will be “starved of energy” and there will be “constant blackouts.” The Islamist militant group Hamas will “terrorize our streets.” There will be a third world war and America will lose it. America itself will face “obliteration.”

But if Trump is re-elected for another term, here is what he told the CPAC crowd would be the result: America will be “richer and safer and stronger and prouder and more beautiful than ever before.”

I can just see MAGA on those stupid, red hats being replaced by RSSP – richer, safer, stronger, prouder. Trump’s probably applied to the Copyright Office to own that trademark too.

Back in 2004, one of the networks had Al Franken doing its election-night broadcast and he referred to the states that were giving a majority of their votes to George Bush as the ‘dumb states.’ I always thought there was no more accurate way to describe a red state, and I certainly believe that any state which gives a majority of its votes to Trump meets the ‘dumb state’ criteria now.

And by the way, if you think that Nikki Haley represents anything less dumb than Trump, think again. When she was asked last week to define her candidacy, this is what she said: “I think we need to have a new generational leader that focuses on the solutions of the future instead of all the issues of the past.”

So, here’s Haley’s ‘future’ stance on abortion, which is no new stance at all. She also wants to ‘stop illegal immigration,’ whatever the word ‘illegal’ means, and she also won’t allow for any Medicaid expansion of the Affordable Care Act.

What’s Haley’s solution for all our pressing problems? She promises to cut taxes, as if this is somehow different from the basic GOP approach to domestic issues over the past 50 years.

In other words, Haley’s no different from every other GOP politician who comes from a dumb state, and the only difference between her and Trump is that Trump used to live in a smart state, although he may end up living in a federal facility like Butner, which is located in a dumb state.

The reason that Haley’s still in the race after she couldn’t even win a primary in her own state is that she’s figuring and hoping that Trump will have to drop out of the Presidential sweepstakes if and when he gets convicted for some of those 91 felony counts. Then she’ll be the so-called ‘presumptive’ GOP candidate whether the MAGA gang likes her or not.

But what Haley’s really counting on is she’ll get a crossover vote from some Democrat(ic) voters in some of the smart states, which will do for her what those votes did for Trump in 2016.

I keep wondering what would have happened if we hadn’t taken those dumb states back into the Union in 1865. Instead of calling themselves the Confederate States of America, they could now call themselves the Dumb States of America, which is what they really are.

Don’t agree with me? Just take a look at how the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court uses New Testament passages to explain and justify his opposition to IVF procedures in his dumb state.
