Why Can't Fascism Be All About Making a Buck?

I’m beginning to get the feeling the GOP has more or less made the decision to let Joe have the keys to the Oval Office for four more years if that’s what it takes to get rid of Trump.

I say this because it looks like we are going to have a Federal budget passed and signed which will contain all those pet projects the Democrats want and will not (read: not) reflect the aims or desires of the dwindling MAGA contingent in either the Senate or the House.

Let’s not forget that Trump was never embraced with any degree of enthusiasm by the mainstream GOP, and from the beginning of his political presence he was as much an opponent of the so-called RINO Republicans as he was a combative adversary of the so-called Socialist-Communist-Democrat(ic) Party otherwise known as the Soros Deep State.

I’m not sure whether Chuck Schumer or Mitch McConnell got more verbal lashings from Trump, but it was a close call either way. And as the 2024 campaign revved up and Trump easily ran away from Nikki Haley and the rest of the GOP field, if anything his hostility against anyone who didn’t toe the MAGA ideological line only increased.

The latest and certainly craziest outburst by Trump against everyone in the Universe who doesn’t kiss his fat ass was an angry and somewhat demented complaint about American jews who vote for Democrats, which happens to be the way that most Jews have always voted over the years.

Here’s what he said in a conversation with that little pro-Nazi creep, Sebastian Gorka: “Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion. They hate everything about Israel, and they should be ashamed of themselves.”

What this comment tells me is that Trump is going to run a campaign which will be nothing more than a vehicle for selling his MAGA products and by mid-Summer, if not earlier, he’ll come up with another bullshit narrative about how the Presidency is being stolen away from him again.

I have been adamant in saying that Trump is no Fascist, but a recent series of media stories about Hitler’s personal finances makes me wonder whether I should change my tune. It turns out that Hitler not only had the government purchase millions of copies of Mein Kampf, for which he received royalties, but he also got a royalty from the German postal service when anyone bought stamps which contained a likeness of his face.

Trump copyrighted MAGA and gets paid when hats, shirts and flags are purchased which bear the MAGA name. But Hitler went one better by copyrighting his own name, which you can’t do if you’re a public figure in the United States these days, but evidently you could own your name in Germany, at least in pre-World War II times.

Trump keeps talking about how if he gets back into the Oval Office in 2025, the first thing he’s going to do is pardon all those ‘patriots’ who charged into the Capitol on January 6th. But why not get the Postal Service to issue a commemorative stamp or better yet, get January 6th declared as a Federal holiday – we can call it ‘Stop the Steal Day.’

Then Trump can publish a little booklet about the riot which will be handed out to every 3rd-grade kid in every public school in the United States, which every school system will be required to buy and of course the royalties will go you know where.

And that’s how Trump can pay off New York State and Jean Carroll for the near-billion he will owe them both.

We think of Fascism as a political credo for how a government maintains its authority through force of arms instead of through the vote. But fifty years from now maybe the word ‘fascism’ will come to mean how someone makes a buck for themselves by using the government to help them promote a marketing scheme.
