I used to believe that the term ‘ambulance chaser’ was something we said about a lawyer who showed up at the scene of an accident and tried to sign up the injured victims before they were carted off to the local hospital or tried to sign up the families of the victims who were taken to the morgue.
But now what we seem to have developed is a new definition of ambulance chaser, namely, lawyers who continue to promote the idea that the 2020 election was a fraud.
Now don’t get me wrong. I happen to have attorneys on both sides of my family, and they are smart, hard-working and ethical folks. I agree that ten thousand lawyers at the bottom of the ocean is a good start, but it’s just a joke.
On the other hand, there’s been no end to the appearances of lawyers who get themselves on alt-right media by continuing to rant about the 2020 election, as if anyone cares.
The latest is someone named Christina Bobb, who was an Executive Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security where her job – get this – was to manage all written correspondence between the DHS Secretary and the outside world.
After the 2020 election, she needed a job, so she ended up working for that bunch who have now all been subpoenaed by the January 6th Committee because they hung out at the Willard Hotel war room.
Bobb also had a gig on the One America News Network, the crazy, alt-right conspiracy-mongering cable outfit that was dropped by DirecTV because their programming was just too far out. Now she appears to be headed for a full-time job with Trump and in the meantime makes appearances on other alt-right media outlets who don’t care what she says as long as she remains loyal to the MAGA brand.
She came up with a doozy on something called the Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN) when she predicted that if the GOP takes back control of Congress after the election later this year, then state legislatures controlled by the red team could meet and ‘de-certify’ the electors who went to Washington and cast their ballots for Joe in 2020 when the Electoral College met.
Does anyone out there take this shit seriously? Is there anyone other than the homebound, wheelchair population who has the time or the interest to listen to what Grandpa would call this ‘drek’ (read: crap) anyway?
According to organizations which track such numbers, right now there are roughly two million Americans who are residents either of nursing homes or long-term, assisted living facilities. I have to assume these two populations constitute the core group who watch these stupid, right-wing shows.
Then there are roughly another five million folks who are still living at home but are visited regularly by caregivers because otherwise they wouldn’t be able to take care of themselves.
So that gets us up to at least seven million who have no idea what they are watching when they turn on the TV, but I’ll tell you this, when you walk into a room where someone is sitting who needs help to stand up, the TV is always on.
In Florida, the ones who can still get around sit there all day watching the weather channel and then get into their cars and drive to the local buffet restaurant to catch the early bird special which starts at 4 p.m.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a month short of my 78th birthday and I could be joining them soon. But if I do wind up sitting in front of the TV all day long, I would hope that my cable system will have some good, liberal news shows.
There are a few liberal shows like Democracy Now, but current events cable programming seems overwhelmingly to be owned by the alt-right, and if Christina Robb’s rant yesterday indicates anything, it’s the degree to which the supporters and followers of MAGA appear to be in control of cable news.
Good.
Let them fight with each other over which alt-right network will draw the biggest audience of shut-ins every day.
